Fur, the Future
Ramon Lawrence Allen Coleman wins AFIC/SAGA Design Seminar Scholarship
Chicago, IL Ramon Lawrence Allen Coleman is on the fast track to the fur-front of fashion. Selected as this years winner of the Associated Fur Industries of Chicagoland (AFIC) Bill Tivers Memorial Scholarship, Ramon is currently attending a week-long design seminar in the SAGA Furs of Scandinavia historic country residence located just outside of Copenhagen Denmark. From May 18th 24th, Ramon along with six international design students will have the opportunity to learn techniques on fur craftsmanship and be able to incorporate fur into personal designs.
Since 1988, the SAGA Design Center has welcomed more than 20,000 designers, furriers, trend forecasters, teachers, students and members of the press from around the globe. In 2002, the AFIC teamed up with SAGA Furs to provide an incredible, premiere opportunity for a Chicago area design student to attend this prestigious seminar. Traditionally, one student from the New York area represented the entire U.S.A., while the other attendees were selected from throughout Europe and Asia. Past attendees have included reps from Fendi, Gucci, Prada and Chanel, and individuals Nicole Miller, David Rodriguez, Mary McFadden, Peter Som, Carmen Marc Valvo and Douglas Hannant.
Ramon was selected from a field of candidates majoring in fashion design at the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College, College of DuPage and the International Academy of Design and Technology. Based on selection criteria created by SAGA Furs and AFIC President, Kathy Rezny along with fashion department recommendations, Ramons portfolio, resumé and intention letter far surpassed expectations. As winner of several competitions and creator of several important collections, its apparent that Ramon has the passion and talent to go Fur in the world of design.
