AFIC and SAGA Furs

For 2002, the AFIC has teamed up with SAGA Furs to provide an incredible opportunity for a Chicago area design student to attend the week-long SAGA design school seminar in Denmark. Based on criteria created by SAGA Furs, AFIC President, Kathy Rezny and Dennis Brozynski from Columbia College’s design program, this year’s scholarship recipient, Kip Gerenda, was selected to be the premiere Chicagoland representative.

Kip was selected as a senior design student at Columbia College who has worked extensively with leather and some fur. He has completed an internship with Donna Karan. In addition to working on his senior project, he currently works full time at Chicago’s Prada store. He is very honored to be the Bill Tivers Memorial Scholarship winner and is very appreciative and excited about being selected as Chicago’s trail blazer in Denmark.

Traditionally, one student from a New York design school (Parson’s F.I.T.) will represent the entire United States at SAGA’s seminar along with many European students. Past attendees have included representatives from Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Chanel and individuals Nicole Miller, Mary McFadden, Mark Montana, and Douglas Hannant. Kip will have an important role in debuting Chicago’s talent and opening the door for future Chicagoans to attend this prestigious seminar. The AFIC looks forward to bringing more Chicago design student into the “fur-front” of fur design!
