Associated Fur Industries of Chicagoland, Inc.

The mission of the Associated Fur Industries of Chicagoland, Inc. is to provide awareness of the fur industry to the public and to educate both the public and members regarding conservation and other industry practices, standards and issues.

For over 84 years, the Associated Fur industries of Chicagoland, Inc. (AFIC) has served and represented the region's fur/leather industry:

AFIC promotes Chicagoland fur/leather retailers to the public:

  • AFIC hosts media “photo shoots,” successful events where members' merchandise is modeled and photographs provided to the press. The event has resulted in full-page photo displays of members' products in local publications.

  • AFIC provides a “fur” presence at local charitable events. AFIC participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the Today's Chicago Woman Foundation auction to benefit battered women, and other local charitable events. AFIC sponsors an annual coat drive to offer the luxury and warmth of fur to needy local recipients.

  • AFIC's Web site offers the public general information about furs and links to members' home pages.

AFIC is the voice of Chicagoland furriers:

  • AFIC has designated spokespeople to represent the local fur industry. These individuals have received media training.

  • AFIC trained spokespeople are available to assist AFIC members. When AFIC members need help forming their own response to the media, AFIC media spokespeople are available for guidance.

AFIC is the source of industry-specific information for Chicagoland furriers:

  • AFIC tracks current events and keeps members up to date. AFIC follows local happenings of interest to Chicagoland furriers. Monthly newsletters, membership meetings and member “Hotlines” serve to update members on important news items.

  • AFIC gives members the education and resources they need. AFIC members learn about new sales strategies, conservation information and practical business matters ranging from “breathable” garment and shopping bags to advances in locks and other security measures. AFIC also updates members on legislative and regulatory matters affecting the industry.
